Is East Grinstead a nice place to live?

East Grinstead is a town packed full of character. Situated in the north-eastern corner of West Sussex and halfway between London and the south coast on the Greenwich Meridian (the Line runs through the Town Council building!), it’s a vibrant town that has a lot going on and great transport links. East Grinstead is a great place for families to settle, thanks to the choice of good schools, as well as the ideal location for commuters as its also perfectly placed for swift travel to London and Gatwick.

The historic old High Street with its half-timbered buildings will take you back through 800 years of Sussex heritage, and the quirky independent shops and coffee shops are perfect for a lazy day of relaxing.

Where to move to in East Grinstead

The main postal districts we cover in East Grinstead are RH19, RH10 and RH7. If you’re looking for some inspiration for where to move to in East Grinstead and the surrounding areas, below are some of our favourite areas.

Woodbury Avenue

The Woodbury Avenue area is perfect for families. A primary school and secondary school are both in walking distance, plus there is a large play area nestled in the centre. Homes here mainly consist of three- and four-bedroom semi-detached and terraced family homes with ample parking and garden space. There are plenty of quiet cul-de-sacs branching from the main avenue, creating mini communities with friendly neighbourhood feel.

The area is tucked away on the east side of East Grinstead in a peaceful, residential area. However, the town centre is only a 20 minute walk away or 12 minutes on the bus, with regular services running. The Woodbury Avenue area is also perfect for accessing the Sussex countryside, with Ashurst Wood, Forest Row, and the Ashdown Forest just short drives away.

Felbridge

Although technically in Surrey, Felbridge is a village that joins East Grinstead. The area has a choice of cosy pubs and cafes, as well as a village hall and access to plenty of green open spaces. It also has its own primary school and is close to one of the secondary schools in East Grinstead, so can be a great place for families.

Felbridge is perhaps best known for Felbridge Show Ground, a popular Equestrian Centre located in the village. Homes in Felbridge include large detached five-bedroom homes, nestled in their own peaceful grounds, which are often gated for extra security.

Dormans Park

Dormans Park is a prestigious private gated estate located a short drive north of East Grinstead. Here you’ll find luxury detached homes, with some offering acres of land, outside swimming pools, and exquisite high-quality finishes. The area has even attracted attention from celebrities, notably Tom Cruise who had a home here in the 2010s.

Though remote, Dormans Park still has good transport links. Dormans Station is nearby with regular services to East Grinstead and further afield to London. There are also regular bus services with a bus stop right outside the park itself.
